St. John Parish Recent Arrests
The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office offers two official windows into new arrests. Its live Zuercher portal works as a current-custody roster. The sheriff's Arrest Reports archive holds dated posts covering one day or a grouped range. The roster shifts as people come and go from custody. A report, by contrast, is fixed to the bookings named in its heading.
Neither view covers exactly the last 24 hours. For a brand-new booking, the roster is still the best first stop. Several days at once? Use the dated reports. The focused 24 Hour Arrests page covers same-day limits, and the multi-day approach sits in the Arrest Log navigation above.
| Official window | What it covers | Photo | Timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Live inmate portal | People shown in current parish custody, with recent date controls | A mugshot or placeholder may appear | Dynamic, with no promised posting delay |
| Arrest Reports archive | One day or a grouped weekend or holiday span | Reviewed reports are text, not photo feeds | Often published after the covered date |
When Parish Arrests Appear
Louisiana Code of Criminal Procedure Article 228 requires prompt booking after an arrest. That duty sets no promised web-posting time. Intake must finish before a complete entry goes public. So a missing name can mean processing lag. It can also mean a spelling mismatch, another holding agency, or a release before your search.
The portal's “In Custody On” control only reaches back 30 days. Older arrest dates still show up when a person stays jailed, but that hardly makes the roster an archive. Need an answer fast? Call the Corrections booking desk at (985) 359-8622 or (985) 359-8623. The SJSO division directory lists both numbers.
Search the St. John Arrest Roster
The official St. John inmate portal is the parish's main tool for current custody. It offers several ways to narrow a search. Just know the fields shift fast. Cell-block data moves most, and the listed holding agency may not be the one that made the arrest.
| Search or result field | How to read it |
|---|---|
| Name | Use the legal name and test a shorter spelling if needed. |
| Race, sex, age | Identifiers that help separate similar names, not proof of identity or guilt. |
| Arrest date | The recorded arrest date associated with the custody entry. |
| In Custody On | A recent-date filter, limited in the reviewed interface to about 30 days. |
| Held for agency | The public agency for which the person is being held. |
| Release date and mugshot | Shown when recorded or available; either may be blank or change. |
Start with a name. Compare age and arrest date, then open the hold details. There you may find charge or warrant text, plus bond. You can also see whether a judge or a schedule set it. No match? Try the dated reports, then call Corrections. For release or transfer notice on one person, the VINELink Check works well. Just use it after the booking is confirmed.
The St John Sheriff's Office app adds another official route in. The sheriff's app announcement highlights inmate and warrant information, crime mapping, tips, and push alerts. It offers no separate mugshot feed or faster intake data. So treat it as convenience rather than a roster replacement. The official roster screen shows the parish's current inmate search controls.
The image is only an interface reference. Search the live source for current results, since roster details can change at any time.
Where Parish Arrests Are Published
Check official channels first. They separate current custody, dated booking reports, court events, and state prison custody. News sites and commercial indexes can lag, keep stale entries, or miss a release, and they cannot override the sheriff, clerk, or court.
| Channel | Status | Best use | Photo |
|---|---|---|---|
| SJSO inmate portal | Official | Current parish custody and hold details | May display one |
| SJSO Arrest Reports | Official | Dated booking windows and charge text | Not in samples reviewed |
| 40th JDC and Clerk | Official | Case progress and final disposition | Not a mugshot source |
| Louisiana DOC | Official | People sentenced to state custody | Offender search may show one |
| L'Observateur | Independent news | Selected arrest reports and crime stories | Varies by story |
| Commercial county indexes | Unofficial | Secondary leads only | Often, but may be stale |
Unofficial county pages include RecentlyBooked, Busted Newspaper, Mugshots.com, Arrests.org, Mugshots.zone, and Arre.st. Their entries often lag or linger after official status changes. Verify every lead against SJSO and the court record. The official Arrest Reports archive shows the sheriff's dated, text-led publishing style.
That archive supplies the parish blotter layer. For a current custody question, the live roster still serves better.
Recent Arrests by Parish Place
St. John the Baptist Parish has no incorporated municipalities. LaPlace, Reserve, and Edgard are census-designated places, and no separate municipal police department or city booking feed exists for any of them. SJSO handles parishwide law enforcement and booking records. The place pages simply apply the same official system locally, without inventing a city agency.
- LaPlace Recent Arrests covers the parish's largest place and the location of the correctional facility.
- Reserve Recent Arrests follows Reserve entries through SJSO's roster, reports, and records division.
- Edgard Recent Arrests explains the parish-seat link to the 40th Judicial District Court.
A town or mailing address in a report does not prove where the event happened. Read the arresting agency, charge narrative, and court file before drawing any location-based conclusion.
Read a Parish Arrest Record
One St. John arrest record is really three pieces. The live roster covers who is in custody now. A dated report preserves the booking summary for that day. The court file shows what happened later. Article 228's statutory booking summary reaches further than any single web screen, so a missing field may still exist; the Records Division can confirm whether it does.
| Record field | What the parish sources show |
|---|---|
| Name and age | Roster and reports, with juveniles sometimes anonymized. |
| Arrest or booking date | Roster arrest date and the report's stated window. |
| Charges, warrants, holds | Recorded charges or hold reasons, subject to later court change. |
| Bond | May appear in roster hold details; it was not a standard field in reviewed reports. |
| Booking number | Not confirmed as a public column; request it when needed. |
| Photo | May appear on a roster entry; dated reports reviewed were not photo feeds. |
| Court date or disposition | Use the Clerk and 40th JDC, not the booking post. |
- Booking
- The intake record made after arrest.
- Bond
- A release condition.
- Detainer
- A request by another agency to keep custody or receive notice.
- Disposition
- The court's outcome, such as dismissal, plea, acquittal, or sentence.
St. John Arrest Photos
Photos depend on where the arrest record lives. The Zuercher roster currently carries a Mugshot column. An in-custody result may show a booking photo or a placeholder instead. SJSO promises no image for every arrest. Its dated reports stay text-only blotters, and the portal warns against unauthorized copying or republication of what it displays. Keep each booking photo in its own record context.
Custody can move beyond the parish jail. Once a person is sentenced to state time, the Louisiana DOC inmate-information page explains how the state offender locator works. That is a different stage from parish booking. Federal Bureau of Prisons results cover federal custody, and that locator publishes no inmate photos. To request an official copy held by SJSO, name the date and the record, then ask Records whether the image is public and available in that form.
Louisiana law also limits booking-photo use. R.S. 14:133.7 addresses the unlawful dissemination of certain booking photographs for specified purposes. One older citation deserves care. Code of Criminal Procedure Article 234 was repealed effective August 1, 2024, so older summaries of it no longer state current law.
Request St. John Arrest Records
Requests go through the SJSO Records Division. The public-records page places that office in the Percy Hebert Building at 1801 W. Airline Highway in LaPlace. Call (985) 359-8873, or fax (985) 652-7916. Name a defined record, not everything about a person. A date, full name, incident number, and record type help staff pull the right file.
- Check the live roster and dated report first, then note the exact name, date, and agency shown.
- Describe whether you seek a booking summary, incident report, booking photograph, or another specific file.
- Submit the request through SJSO's stated public-record route and wait for a cost or availability response.
- Pay only a fee supported by the sheriff's official schedule, and ask which exemption applies if material is withheld.
Costs are set out plainly. The published cost requirements list a $10 criminal-record check and a $50 CD for photographs or videos, plus copy charges and mailing. Nothing in the schedule promises that a given booking photo will be released. No photo-only fee appears there. No fixed turnaround time is published either. Records touching juveniles, sexual-offense victims, active investigations, or other privileged material may be limited.
Check the live fee page before sending funds.
Louisiana Arrest Law and Removal
Article 228 opens booking entries and summaries to public inspection, subject to other confidentiality laws. The Louisiana Public Records Law governs access, exemptions, and agency duties too. Some categories stay privileged. SJSO names juvenile criminal and status-offender reports among them. Information identifying a sexual-offense victim is protected as well. The portal can flag a juvenile in a restricted way, and arrest reports use a term like juvenile rather than a public name.
Sealing and expungement are court processes. The St. John Clerk's criminal division page lays out the local path. An order can pull covered material from public access. It need not destroy every underlying government record. Send the order, or proof of changed official status, to the office that controls the record first. For a stale search result, use the search engine's own removal or refresh process.
Some commercial sites offer opt-out routes. RecentlyBooked says removals are free for qualifying dispositions, Busted Newspaper posts a free listing-removal request, and Mugshots.com publishes record-maintenance instructions. Terms and results can change. Skip any third party promising a guaranteed wipe. Hold back sensitive identity papers until you verify the recipient and its policy.
Online display is one thing; legal retention is another. Louisiana R.S. 44:36 sets a general three-year minimum when no other law or approved schedule requires longer. The Secretary of State retention schedules cover agency schedules, and no parish-specific booking-photo transfer schedule is published, so ask SJSO whether a file remains with the agency or has moved. Ask SJSO whether the file still exists.
St. John Arrest Warrants
SJSO runs two different tools for wanted people. The first is the Active Warrants portal, where you can search a name directly. The second is a Most Wanted page spotlighting people the agency is actively seeking. The two lists are not copies of each other. The portal casts a wider net across outstanding warrants, while Most Wanted focuses on a handful of selected cases. Neither page posts a fixed update schedule or a running count. The official Most Wanted source displays the selected-list format SJSO uses.
Warrant questions belong with the sheriff, a court, or a lawyer. Do not approach anyone on a wanted list. Tips go to law enforcement through the contact information on the official page. Anyone checking on a personal warrant should get lawful instructions from the authorities rather than trusting an unofficial index.
Rely on the live portal, not saved pages.
After a St. John Arrest
An arrest in St. John the Baptist Parish starts with booking at the jail in LaPlace. That step opens a record. It settles nothing about the case itself. The 40th Judicial District Court handles parish criminal matters, and the Clerk's filings can show arraignment, motions, a plea, a trial result, a dismissal, or a final sentence. An arraignment is simply the hearing where a charge gets addressed head on. The disposition is the outcome that closes the file.
Geography shapes the trip. Edgard serves as the parish seat, and the 40th JDC holds its jury trials, bench trials, and felony motions there. Court-side records come from the 40th JDC, the Clerk, and eClerks LA. Bond amounts on a jail roster reflect release conditions at one moment, nothing more.
Parish Booking Numbers in Context
Numbers need context before anyone reads too much into them. SJSO's 2025 annual report counts 2,264 parish-jail bookings in 2024. It also lists 1,324 bookings marked "2025 to Date." That second figure is partial. It is not a yearly total. The same report tallies calls for assistance, drug arrests, DWI arrests, and vehicle crashes. Yet those are separate measures. A booking count tells you how many people were processed. It says nothing about convictions, unique individuals, or the parish crime rate.
The jail behind those bookings opened in February 1997. The sheriff describes the Lt. Sherman Walker Correctional Facility as a 300-bed operation. It handles transport, feeding, medical care, education, and custody. Louisiana DOC's local listing calls it St. John Parish Correctional Center or Sherman Walker Correctional Center. Either way, both names point to parish detention. That means no city jail or state prison.
Custody Beyond Parish Arrests
A St. John the Baptist Parish lookup can go quiet for reasons besides release. A transfer or a state sentence moves a person out of the local roster. Louisiana DOC handles people in state custody through its offender-locator process. VINE and LAVNS follow supported custody events and send alerts. Federal cases run through the Bureau of Prisons locator. Immigration detention belongs to the ICE Online Detainee Locator. A blank in one system rarely means much about another.
Match the source to the custody stage instead. Check the SJSO roster for current local detention. Pull dated arrest reports for a known booking window. The Clerk and court hold the case outcome. Louisiana DOC covers a state sentence. BOP or ICE fits the relevant federal system. That order keeps an old mugshot or a vanished roster entry from being mistaken for a live custody report.
